About Dr. Kravitz

Dr. Neal D. Kravitz grew up in Fairfax, Virginia. Following graduation from W.T. Woodson High School, Dr. Kravitz earned his Bachelor degree from Columbia University and his Doctorate in Medical Dentistry at the University of Pennsylvania, graduating as valedictorian. He continued his post-doctorate dental education with an additional three-year residency in orthodontics at the University of Illinois-Chicago. In conjunction with his residency, Dr. Kravitz earned a Master of Science degree in Oral Sciences.

Dr. Kravitz continued his passion for orthodontics as a teacher, international speaker, and author. Dr. Kravitz is faculty at both the University of Maryland and Washington Hospital Center orthodontic residencies. In addition, he maintains teaching obligations at the University of Pennsylvania, where he lectures on pre-adolescent orthodontics and growth and development. On off-weekends, Dr. Kravitz lectures throughout the country and internationally on modern advancements in orthodontics. He has presented numerous times at the AAO, dental and orthodontic society meetings, and orthodontic residencies through the country, quickly building a reputation as one our professions most dynamic and sought-after speakers. As an author, Dr. Kravitz is highly published in a myriad of dental and orthodontic journals, including the American Journal of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics, the Angle Orthodontist, the Journal of Clinical Orthodontics, the World Journal of Orthodontics, the Journal of the American Dental Association, the Ontario Dentist, as well as authored various educational study guides and newsletters. When he is not writing, he is a voracious reader of orthodontic literature and guest-editor for three refereed journals.

In addition to his training as a specialist, he has completed the rigorous additional study and examinations required to become a Certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthodontics. He is among the small percentage of orthodontists in the United States to earn this degree of recognized excellence in his specialty.

Why is it important that my doctor teaches?

Only a select few are asked to become faculty at an orthodontic residency program. As faculty at two universities, Dr. Kravitz stays at the forefront of orthodontic technology and practices only sound, evidence-based technique.

Why is it important that my doctor publishes and reviews journal manuscripts?

Reviewers or guest-editors are chosen by the journals' editor-in-chief and considered experts in their particular field. As a reviewer for three refereed journals, Dr. Kravitz has devoted himself as a life-long learner and active participant for the advancement of orthodontics.

Dr. Kravitz's father, Dr. Paul Kravitz, is a 30-year practicing Dermatologist in Burke, Virginia. His mother, Lesley, is a devoted social worker and administrator for the Fairfax County Public School System.
