The John Champe Knights are anxious for tonight's football kickoff for their homecoming! Team KO is celebrating and wishing the Knights a great victory!!

Team KO had a BLAST at Arcola Elementary School's field day! Ariana and Angela set up the spoon relay and Brittne ran the Foursquare games. A great big thank you to Dr. Clark Bowers, Coach Bango and Arcola's PTA for organizing such a great event! Even on a 90 degree day, the smiles were wide on the students faces-we are so proud to be part of the Dragon family!

Wow, it's hard to believe that the 2012-2013 school year is almost at an end. It's even harder to believe that the 5th graders are going to be in the middle schools!! We love that the PTA's from Little River, Buffalo Trail, Liberty, Pinebrook, Aldie, Hutchison Farm, and Arcola have organized 5th grade promotion celebrations for these amazing students as they prepare to move on up to the middle schools. It's our pleasure to be a sponsor of the celebrations and be able to be a part of the day. Thank you for thinking of us!

Team Kravitz is pumped up and ready to watch Mercer Middle School shoot some hoops in this 3 on 3 basketball tournament! Keep an eye out for TEAM KO as we welcome everyone into the gym with Dr. Kravitz and Margaret announcing the game! The game will be held at Mercer Middle School from 6-9 pm on Friday, March 15th. GO MOUNTAIN LIONS!

This awesome group of students from J. Michael Lunsford Middle School in South Riding, Virginia is here at our office today with a pledge for all to sign to stop bullying in our schools! I could not think of a more creative idea, and we LOVE the shirts they made! The slips of colorful paper signed by pledgers will be made into a link chain that represents the unity of our community. Stop by our office and take the pledge!! Team Kravitz is here to help!

Pinebrook Elementary School PTA in Aldie, VA is hosting an international night for students and families. Team Kravitz will be there to support the Pumas! Students and teachers will be doing cultural performances to showcase their ancestry customs and traditions. Families will also be doing food tastings from all around the world. Come join us tonight at Pinebrook from 6:30-8:30 pm, hope to see you there!

Arcola Elementary School is raising money for their brand new track! Team Kravitz is a proud sponsor of this event and looks forward to seeing the track when it's finished! The walk-a-thon will take place on Thursday, March 21st during recess. Students will walk 2-4 laps together, with their teachers. Anyone can participate in the event! Kravitz Orthodontics continually supports our community! Our team loves connecting with the groups of moms that come into our office and chat while sipping on a cup of our delicious cappuccino. We are proud to sponsor Pink Polka Dot Productions and Macaroni Kid. If you haven't heard of these two groups, you're missing out!

Pink Polka Dot Productions is an organization of moms that have a mission to inspire, motivate and encourage each other as they go through the day-to-days of motherhood. The next conference is at the Gaylord National Resort on April 20, 2013, the keynote speaker is Deborah Phelps-mom of Olympic gold medalist, Michael Phelps!

Macaroni Kid is a nationwide blog written by publisher moms in local areas dedicated to write about family-friendly events happening in the community each week. We love to read about crafts to do with kids, recipes to cook with children in the kitchen and favorite places to go as a family on vacation.

Our office is incredibly honored to be such a big part of our community. Receiving handwritten cards from administrators of our local schools is something that we cherish. Thank YOU for including us as part of your families.

Each February for the past 62 years, the American Dental Association (ADA) has sponsored National Children's Dental Health Month to raise awareness about the importance of oral health. Developing good habits at an early age and scheduling regular dental visits helps children get a good start on a lifetime of healthy teeth and gums.

For kids wearing braces, brushing and flossing can become more difficult, requiring extra time and vigilance to remove food particles that accumulate on and between the teeth and in braces. New options for braces such as Invisalign Teen, which is removable, make it easier for kids to maintain good oral health during orthodontic treatment.

If the health of your teeth is ignored during treatment with braces, the results can be significantly compromised. We love when patients ask us this question! Now that you’re wearing braces, it’s just as important to maintain a good oral hygiene regimen as you did before your orthodontic treatment began. The first few days in braces are going to be more difficult to eat than normal. There will be a slight discomfort when you first get your braces on, so the act of chewing will make it slightly more painful.

Here are a few soft foods that do not require you to do much chewing and are easy to chew on when your teeth are sore.

Ice cream, yogurt, pudding, cool soups, Jell-O, scrambled eggs, cream of wheat, baked potatoes, soft cooked pasta, soup, bananas, cottage cheese, smoothies, macaroni and cheese, pancakes, soft cheeses, and milk are all foods you can eat safely without having to worry about pain or breaking your brackets.

Our team here at Kravitz Orthodontics really takes pride in being such a large part of the community. We enjoy going to sporting events, PTA events, school plays, concerts, farmers markets, you name it! Mercer Middle School does a great job with providing fun after school activities for their students (we love seeing Principal Duellman at the events!), including yearbook club in which students are the photographers and editors of the school yearbook! Dr. Kravitz recently donated two new cameras to the school for the yearbook club and school staff to use. We can't wait to see the pictures from this school year!

Buffalo Trail Elementary PTA hosted a fun international night for parents and students last week, showcasing lots of cultures from all over the world. We really enjoyed seeing teachers participate, dressing up in garments from the countries that their ancestors came from. Musical instruments such as drums were set up in the gymnasium for children to improvise and create sounds that were unfamiliar to them. What a great learning experience!

This weekend, John Champe High School students performed the wonderful Romeo and Juliet play by Shakespeare. One of our patients, Lucky Vemuri, received the leading role as Juliet-we are so proud of her!

This fantastic group of actors and actresses grabbed our attention from the opening scene all the way to the final bow. BRAVO!!!!

With the holidays quickly approaching, it seems difficult to tackle that long shopping list for our family and friends. This weekend, the Wellness Connection hosted a holiday market in the Stone Ridge community for shopping and even pictures with Santa! Vendors, who all live in the local area, sold handmade gifts, jewerly, greenery, foods, etc. Team Kravitz handed out hot cocoa and toys for kids who attended the market-it was a hit!

The Wellness Connection also hosts a farmers market every Saturday, April through October so be sure to check their website in the Spring for more information!
